If you couldn’t already tell, I spent last week in the Hamptons with some friends and had my first real getaway vacay in about a year, which was a nice treat.

As per usual, I ended up overpacking and with a lot of red, white, and blue in my suitcase because I felt it was necessary to be patriotically prepared for any occasion during the 4th of July holiday.

This easy breezy top and comfy, yet cute cork heeled shoes were perfect pieces for vacations like this where you need to go from casual-hanging-by-the-pool looks during the day to the Heidi-Klum-just-stole-my-table looks in the evening. #HamptonsProblems

Black and White and Ladylike

Zara jacket / Gap Body tank / Ever skirt (similar online) / Ray Ban sunnies / Nona E. Rose belt / etc… braided watchband bracelet /  Gypsies & Debutantes bracelets (coming soon, others online) / Plenty by Tracy Reese shoes (similar online) / vintage bag, earrings and all other jewelry

I’m not usually one for polished lady-like looks like the fabulous Saucy Glossie—especially with my busy lifestyle and trekking all over the city, but sometimes I can’t resist a beautifully designed find like this silk pleated skirt I found at the Barney’s Warehouse Sale. Of course, I had to make it more my style by mixing it with black pieces to give it an edge.

STYLIST TIP: When wearing a ladylike skirt, make sure to pair it accordingly with ladylike accessories like a structured bag and classic pumps to look put together (stay away from slouchy bags and wedges this time).

Good for Your Soles

Free People top (similar online) and sunnies (in store, similar online)/ J.Crew tank / Levi’s shorts / Worishofer shoes / Zara necklace / Nona E. Rose belt / Rebecca Minkoff bag / etc… neon and gold watchband bracelets / Shaya bangles / Alex and Ani bangles / Nixon watch

NYC living can be hard on people’s soles (pun intended)—especially if you’re like me and you’re on your feet all day. I scoffed at shopping in the comfort shoe section for years, but now I know why people do it. Though there has got to be a happy medium between comfort and cute.

These WORISHOFER wedges are my summer go-to shoe. Once reserved for elderly German women, when done right, they can look pretty darn cute on the girl on the go.

STYLIST TIP: If you’re like me and don’t love the way your legs look in shorts, try pairing them with a little wedge. The slight lift will make your legs appear longer and leaner. Of course this little photoshoot trick is the BEST secret to killer legs.

Sun Showers

Madewell shirt / Zara jeans and necklace/ Matiko shoes (similar) / Gypsy Nation vintage bag / Nona E. Rose belt / J.Crew hat (mine is from Brimfield Antique Fair, imported from Ecuador and sold to J.Crew!) / etc… watchband bracelet / Gypsies + Debutantes friendship bracelet (ON SALE NOW!) / H&M cuff / Nixon watch

I raced home after a shoot on Friday in time before the sun went down to finally get you some style candy! (Sorry for the lack thereof, but there’s been too many exciting things to share with you lately).

The weather in NYC has been so wacky that I didn’t know how to dress for the day. You can’t go wrong with layers and the chambray shirt came on and off a few times that day. It went back on as we were shooting in the street and a light sun shower perfectly ended my exhausting and at times, hot day.

STYLIST TIP: I personally like my shirts a bit oversized and/or flowy to balance out my skinny shoulders, so if you opt for that too, make sure you balance out your silhouette with a slimmer bottom. Vice versa if you go for a looser bottom.

Current Indie Obsessions: Rock of Ages

1 – Gypsies & Debutantes bracelet  / 2 – Wrecords By Monkey iPhone case / 3 – Beth Lauren earrings /
4 – Nona E. Rose belt / 5 – Olivier Green A/W ’12 dress

With the movie Rock of Ages coming out next week, I’m ready to get in the rock spirit. I love mixing my usual feminine bohemian style with some edgier pieces daily, but now I have some excuses to add some subtle indie rock nods with feminine details to my look.

I Love Rock’n’Roll

Zara top  and jeans / Rag & Bone jacket / TopShop scarf (currently in store, similar online) / Plenty by Tracy Reese shoesRebecca Minkoff bag / Nona E. Rose belt / etc… gold and neon watchband bracelets / H&M spiked cuff / Shaya bangles / Alex and Ani bangles

Okay, so I’m deviating this week from my style resolution of more color in my life, but I tend to gravitate towards looks like these that are one part chic + one part edgy. There’s something about walking around wearing some skulls and studs that make you feel like you can take on the world.

STYLIST TIP: Avoid looking like you just stepped out of your mall’s Hot Topic but adding subtle edgy hints and mixing them with some more feminine, polished pieces like a tailored blazer or heels.

p.s. If you haven’t checked it out yet, the etc… online shop is finally up-and-running so you can rock some of your own arm candy—even in NEON for a limited time!

Birthday Wishlist

Not to get all middle school on you, but my birthday is exactly one month away. Hint hint.

I have had the privilege of being born during Memorial Day weekend, so the entire country fires up their grills and seems to leave town in my honor. I could have been born on a leap year the amount of times I’ve actually been able to celebrate the actual day. Cue the tiny violins.

Now that I’m getting older, celebrating it has lost its cache. It’s no longer exciting when you realize that the fun part is over: getting your locker decorated, throwing a big slumber party, getting to an age when you’re old enough to do stuff like drive/vote/drink/rent a car/say “but I’m too young to do that.”

One thing you don’t outgrow is getting gifts. Though, as I’m getting older, it’s more likely that I’ll be gifting to myself. Well, here is my birthday wishlist to myself:

Nixon watch

I’ve resisted following the Michael Kors mens watch trend for a few years now, though I’ve always secretly wanted one. I just can’t bear to wear the same thing that I know a gazillion people will be walking around with. If I can find a unique version of it, then I’m game. This Nixon watch is unlike any I’ve seen out there on women. In fact, I first fell in love upon seeing my hubby’s male friend wearing one. Don’t tell my hubby that. Actually…do.

Anthropologie Capri Blue Mercury Glass Jar Candle

This is my absolute favorite candle scent. I feel so relaxed at the smell of this burning and maybe that’s why I often feel so relaxed in Anthropologie to hand over my credit card. The fact that it’s now sold in the vintage feel of mercury glass makes me want one for every room in my apartment (and to store everything in them when the candle is done).

Emily Elizabeth earrings

My grandmother’s leaf earrings like these are my go-to pair of studs to wear on a daily basis. Sadly, one got lost in the abyss of my previous apartment and the other is on its last leg, as I’ve worn it daily with other studs for years now. I would wear these daily and hopefully pass them along to my grandchild—who will one day lose one in her apartment.

Nona E. Rose belt

So, you’ve probably seen me wearing something like this belt quite often, but I loaned to to my sister and may never get it back. I’ll take another one so I can wear it all of the time again until you’re sick of seeing me in it. Deal with it.

SuperGreat Greetings card

Is it weird to send yourself a birthday card? If it’s not, this one would be awesome.
