My Insta-Week

Standard

Okay, so it’s only  Wednesday, but I’ve been working non-stop for the past week, so I’m ready to recap my week for you. It’s been a busy one with a lot of fun things to look at.

iPad leopard print case in J.Crew stores (similar online)

This was a gorgeous location to shoot a catalog in NYC. Too bad it was so windy on the roof that the poor model almost toppled over in her heels.

Rag & Bone jacket /J.Crew top (similar) / Zara jeans / vintage belt and ring / Nine West shoes (similar) / Chloe bag / etc… necklaces

I took fashion to the playground with my nephews and friends while prepping for a photoshoot in Boston.

I spotted Manolo Blahnik shoes that are to die for while prepping at Neiman Marcus in Copley Center. Not sure where I’d wear these to though…

More realistically, I would love to own this House of Harlow 1960 clutch from Neiman Marcus (similar online).

Styling in action.

More of me in action. Glamorous, I know.

This dress had the most amazing texture, from my favorite shot from one of the shoots that I worked on that will be published in June. Be sure to check back from the actual scenes to the behind the scenes.

Rockin’ The Suburbs

Standard

On Sara: dress (similar) / BCBG clutch / shoes (similar)

On Liz: BCBG dress (similar) / Rag & Bone blazer / Nine West shoes / Betsey Johnson jeweled bracelet / etc… watchband bracelet / rhinestone bracelet (Nordstrom Rack) / vintage ring / Ray-Ban sunnies / clutch (TJMaxx).

My gorgeous (and also stylish) art director friend, Sara, and I felt a bit out of place the other day while strolling through Peekskill, New York.

We were definitely overdressed to pick up iced coffees at the Peekskill Coffee Shop, but it was a necessary trip with the time we had to kill between our friends’ wedding ceremony and reception. It sparked a lot of turned heads and cat calling, as we were pretty dolled up for a Saturday afternoon in the ‘burbs.

I love being able to dress up and my physically demanding job rarely gives me the opportunity to. It was so fun to feel like a scene from Sex & The City, with our cocktail dresses and heels, grabbing coffee. If only every day were that glamorous!

Hangin’ Tough

Standard

Zara jacket and jeans (similar) and necklace; Helmut Lang sweater (similar); etc… watchband bracelets; H&M enamel bangle (similar); Urban Expressions bag (TJMaxx, similar online); Nine West shoes.

The toughest part of my job—aside from the schlepping and being on my feet all day—is probably resisting the urge to want to own everything I get for photoshoots. It’s easier to just say no when it’s the samples from showrooms that you HAVE to give back or the pieces from Chanel on Newbury Street that I’m pulling for an upcoming shoot and can’t afford at the moment.

The truth is, I rarely go shopping for myself anymore. I usually end up keeping so much from photoshoots that are either damaged or I just can’t bear to return because they’re just so good. I don’t recommend shopping this way—for the sake of your wallet.

Though, in this economy, I tend to try to get the most bang for the buck for my clients. So, when I’m finding deals for things that look way more expensive, it can be worth spending the money on. Well, as long as I know I will get a lot of use out of it.

Take these shoes that I picked up for a recent shoot (on sale for $75) and this necklace (less than $20). How can you say no to these pieces that I get stopped on the street for!?

Festive Spirit

Kaylee Tankus coat; Ann Taylor LOFT tuxedo blazer; JSDNYC by Jennifer Stewart custom sweater (JSDNYC.com); San and Soni pants (SanandSoni.com); Nine West shoes; Betsey Johnson sheer sparkle socks; etc… braided watchband cuff; vintage bag, gloves, hat, pin, and stretch rhinestone bracelet.    /    photos by Joshua Boccheciamp

I always seem to forget that I live in the style bubble that is NYC—where we tend to dress up to go to the grocery store.

So this Christmas Eve, I was probably overdressed/wearing too much black/looking like an urbanite that evening, but at least my pops of deep reds and sparkly jewelry brought festive spirit to my look.

Have you made yours yet?

Happy first day of fall! Are you rocking your colors yet? I know I am—especially after seeing that the forecast has potentially rain all week.

One of my other favorite ways to embrace this season and come to terms with the end of the warmer months, is boots. What girl doesn’t love a great pair of boots? It’s the one thing I invest in nearly every year, and will wear year after year.

So go ahead, buy your cheaper trendy heeled loafers, color blocked square heels, lace up hiking style heeled booties…but please splurge on a great pair of boots.

MY SENSIBLE PICKS (starting at just $59, all from endless.com—which means FREE shipping and returns!):

Frye Sabrina Stacked Heel Boot

Frye Jane Cuff Boot

Lucky Aida Riding Boot

Lucky Laureen Ankle Boot

Seychelle’s Safari Boot

Seychelle’s Meteor Shower Combat Boot

Nine West Mavenue Heeled Bootie

Dolce Vita Darice Riding Boot

The hardest part is choosing just one investment boot this season!

Vacay-Ready

Vacay-Ready

Free People top and shorts, Theory tank, Nine West Espadrilles, vintage bag, Burberry sunnies, etc... watchband cuff, Shaya square gold bangles, straw bangles from Cambodia

Gel manicure by Dashing Diva

etc... watchband cuff, Shaya square gold bangles (shayanyc.com), straw bangles from Cambodia / photos by Joshua Boccheciamp

I’m counting down the days until my Hawaiian honeymoon and am getting vacay-ready. Of course, the most important beautification was my first gel mani ever…and I’m obsessed. Dashing Diva did the most exquisite job with my gold polish, complete with a little bling of silver on my ring fingers that will hopefully last for my whole trip (I’ll keep you posted). I couldn’t believe I walked out of there without having to do that awkward trying to find my keys in my purse without smudging my nails maneuver!
