As a stylist working for myself, I tend to forget to take vacations. This past week I managed to trade in the city life for the relaxing vacation life with a wedding at a resort and then a beach house with the bride, groom, and some friends in the Hamptons.
You may have been following my @dear_andi tweets with hashtags like #hamptonsproblems and figured this out yourself.
Of course, you can’t take the city girl out of me and I was probably the only person wearing black out there. Though, my Loomstate multi-functional dress was not only convertible, but could easily transition from day to night.
I’ve been away from home for the past week, working on a shoot in Boston and for a weekend getaway in Maine. These are just some of the behind-the-scenes of my week:
1 – What the front of a mannequin may look like when you’re photographing the back. #Insta-Tailor
2 – This is what I spend last weekend doing. I know you’re jealous.
3 – Shopping spree at TJMaxx. Too bad none of it was for me.
4 – Dinner at Lucky’s in Boston with the talented Lana Soussan of GYPSIES + DEBUTANTES (spotted on DAILYCANDY today!). I now have arm candy envy.
5 – My new swimwear c/o K.BELO–too bad it was too cold to wear this weekend in Maine!
6 – So much for a boat ride.
7 – The perfect lobster dinner for a gal with a severe shellfish allergy.
8 – I could get used to this kind of life…now back to the reality of a city girl.
Here’s just a few of my favorite shots from Instagram this past week…follow username @dearandi on Instagram or on the web here for the daily life of this stylist.
1 – Prepping for a shoot in 3.1 Phillip Lim jacket, Jason Wu for Target top and skirt, J.Crew belt, and Worishofer shoes.
2 – The best blueberry pancakes ever from Building on Bond in Brooklyn.
3 – My gorgeous birthday gift Nixon watch, along with etc… watchband bracelet, Alex & Ani and Shaya bangles.
4 – Rebels in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
5 – Hanging out by the East River in Williamsburg (Zara jeans and DV by Dolce Vita sandals).
6 – My bff visiting in NYC (McQ by Alexander McQueen top and Warby Parker sunnies).
7 – Homemade latkes
8 – THE holiday party of the summer, our 5th annual LatkesLatkesLatkes + S’mores party
9 – Yummy (and EASY) lemon star cookies
10 – Big Gay Ice Cream Truck deliciousness at the 92nd Street Y Chocolate Fest
11 – 92nd Street Y Chocolate Fest = Chocolate coma
I think you’ll find this Instaweek pretty exciting because I FINALLY get to post some of what I’m working on before it comes out in a few months!
I worked on a couple of beauty editorials for a popular European magazine this week (no, I didn’t get to jet set to Europe…unless you count me greeting everyone with double kisses). Because it’s about the latest hair and makeup trends for this fall, the editor gave me the go-ahead to reveal some of the wardrobe we shot and of course, brag about the cool designers I worked with.
Me, on set, in action, along with photographer, Florian Innerklofer.
Doesn’t this Beth Lauren piece complete my styling look? You may think it looks better on the model, but I beg to differ.
Think I’ll start a back jewelry trend? I hope so. This Juliet & Company necklace totally compliments this S.I.C. dress.
I think I couldn’t get enough of everything by Eleven Objects and Made Her Think on this shoot.
This E.Kammeyer pin was so perfect for this gorgeous Dabya dress.
I was totally blown away with everything from the entire collection by Olivier Green (you may know him from Project Runway), especially his celestial printed fabrics. I paired it with a top by BCBG and earrings from Beth Lauren for a heavenly look.
This E.Kammeyer hair comb was pretty bad-ass for our edgier shoot.
This Olivier Green top and FSMNYC necklace were too amazing together and a great look to end the shoot. I can’t wait to share all of the other looks (and great beauty that was created) when it does come out in a few months.
This was only half of the schlepping from this week. The glamorous life of a stylist continues…
Somehow I lucked out and the one day this week that was gorgeous and sunny out, I happened to be on location shooting the cover of a magazine at a resort on Cape Cod. While it was an exhausting day and I had to lug bags and bags and bags of clothing and accessories up and down a few flights of stairs (thank goodness for the help of an amazing crew!), it was one of those days that makes it all worth it.
I didn’t look so glamorous, running around, but it sure felt like I could get used to the scenery of this photoshoot.
My Free People pants (similar) and pasty feet that haven’t seen sun in a while match my lint roller!
Looks like Robin, our prop stylist on this shoot, also got the cobalt blue pant memo…and got stuck doing double duty as a photo assistant while on the beach.
We found this little fella pool side. Check out those fierce brows channeling Altuzarra‘s spring 2012 runway.
I pulled these amazing Prada flats that everyone on set went ga-ga for, but sadly could not use when our male model was 6’4″ and our female model was a whopping 7 inches shorter. Wah wah.
We also didn’t use these particular Sisco Berluti baubles, but I’m obsessed with the stacks of bracelets you can put together from this company—especially these mint colored ones. I’d wear these layered with my own bracelets for a beachy daytime look, or one of these sparkle accented ones at night time. …and yet another item on my wishlist.
Speaking of bracelets I’m obsessing over, this is the latest bracelet I’m adding into my stacking rotation. No, not the etc… watchband ones you see me rocking almost daily, but the Gypsies + Debutantes studded friendship bracelet I couldn’t resist getting while pulling for this shoot. The showroom made it too easy for me and now you can get your own here.
Hope you’re enjoying your own insta-week! Follow me, Liz Teich, on Instagram for more of my styling behind-the-scenes.
Okay, so it’s only Wednesday, but I’ve been working non-stop for the past week, so I’m ready to recap my week for you. It’s been a busy one with a lot of fun things to look at.
iPad leopard print case in J.Crew stores (similar online)
This was a gorgeous location to shoot a catalog in NYC. Too bad it was so windy on the roof that the poor model almost toppled over in her heels.
Rag & Bone jacket /J.Crew top (similar) / Zara jeans / vintage belt and ring / Nine West shoes (similar) / Chloe bag / etc… necklaces
I took fashion to the playground with my nephews and friends while prepping for a photoshoot in Boston.
I spotted Manolo Blahnik shoes that are to die for while prepping at Neiman Marcus in Copley Center. Not sure where I’d wear these to though…
More realistically, I would love to own this House of Harlow 1960 clutch from Neiman Marcus (similar online).
Styling in action.
More of me in action. Glamorous, I know.
This dress had the most amazing texture, from my favorite shot from one of the shoots that I worked on that will be published in June. Be sure to check back from the actual scenes to the behind the scenes.
Sorry to leave you without any style candy the past couple of days, but this has been one whirlwind of a week (and lately with little to no wi-fi/cell service!). Take a look for yourself…
Photoshoot for prom/homecoming/formal/bridal dresses with a Jewelry by Beth Lauren necklace.
My amazing intern, Damien Hairston, on his first professional photoshoot for an accessories story editorial. (adorbs!)
The coolest Marc Jacobs boots were unfortunately not used for the shoot, but I couldn’t get enough of them.
I then “jet setted” in this teeny-weeny USAir Piedmont Dash-8 over to rural central Virginia for a catalog photoshoot—only after one of my connecting flights got canceled and it took 3 planes to get there! The glamorous life of a stylist…
