Ask A Stylist

Standard

When I was contacted by Scout Mob to contribute to their site, I was totally flattered. When they asked me to be a guide to my top five places to find something fashionable in my city, I was flattered AND psyched. When they suggested vintage shops, it was a no brainer. As you’ve probably noticed, I’m a big fan of all things vintage and vintage inspired. Check out my top five picks on their site for vintage shopping in NYC.

If you haven’t checked out Scout Mob, you’re missing out. This site is like that friend you have that knows all of the cool things happening around your city and gets hooked up with deals from the owners of the places. You could be that guy!

I Heart Shoes

NewbarK shoes from the spring 2012 collection

So I recently found out about this low-key, comfy yet chic shoe line and am now in love. I wrote about NewbarK shoes on DNA Footwear’s blog for my weekly Designer Spotlight…you’ll heart these shoes when you find out more.

I visited one of my favorite shops in Boston today, LOUIS, while working on Boston Magazine’s spring fashion issue and was so stoked to see that this popular shop carrying some of my favorite designers (Marni, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Balenciaga, The Row, Lulu Frost…)¬† is now carrying this sweet line!

Spoiler Alert: If you like reading about this stylist’s life, these shoes are created by sisters who are stylists that like me, need some easy kicks to run around in all day. Ah, the glamorous life…well, with these, actually kind of.

Queen of Punk + Queen of Eco-Chic

This week my post for my guest blogging on DNA Footwear’s site featured the most unique collaboration in shoe design history: Vivienne Westwood and Melissa. I never thought I’d be yearning for a pair of jellies like I had back in the day like I do now…

C’mon, how rad are these?? I’d still wear this rubbery plastic kicks.

I’ll just have to settle for some Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes!

Designer Spotlight: Vanessa Mooney

Standard

If you read this blog and you’ve seen the awesome boho/ethnic inspired jewelry in places like the Free People catalogs and some major celebs, then chances are you’ve seen the gorgeous jewelry of Vanessa Mooney.

I was first introduced to her designs by fellow blogger and fashion lover, Justin of Munrowe, while pulling pieces for an editorial shoot, and I nearly died! Her line is exactly the style that I grew up with from my hippie mom. “Andi,” my mother who’s the namesake and inspiration of this blog, learned how to make jewelry from the Hopi Native Americans and that style is totally living on through the creations of Vanessa Mooney.

When I found out that the designer is coming out with a shoe line, my heart fluttered! Jewelry and shoes: a gal’s two loves. I had to spotlight the designer for my guest blogging on DNA’s site this week! I can’t wait for these easy breezy moccasins to debut so I can rock them with my VM jewelry.

p.s. This is DEAR ANDI’s 100th post!

(Only a few more until Malcolm Gladwell’s 10000 hour rule is reached)!

Guest Blogging: Designer Spotlight #1

I feel quite honored that one of my favorite shoe stores asked me to be their weekly guest blogger starting in 2012! This could get dangerous, as now I’m finding more great shoes from not just their store, but from designers you should get to know.

Check out my first post of my designer spotlight on DNA FOOTWEAR’s blog.
